Editorial information

Word count and formatting guidelines
Standard reviews should be between 6,000 and 8,000 characters in length, and leading articles between 60,000 and 80,000 characters (including spaces). If submitted reviews or leading articles editorials significantly exceed or fall short of the specified length, the editorial team may request revisions. The journal is published as an open-access journal. A print edition is also published by Verlagshaus Aschendroff (Münster). In addition, a print edition will be published by Verlagshaus Aschendroff (Münster). We cannot guarantee that a review published as open access will be included in the print edition, but we will endeavour to do so in all cases.

When writing the review and the editorial, please adhere to the journal’s style guidelines regarding abbreviations, naming conventions, gender-neutral language, references and other matters. These can be viewed here: https://ejournals.uni-muenster.de/thrv/article/view/9455/9424

Editorial process
Once a review has been submitted, it is processed by the editorial team. As soon as this is complete, the review is assigned to the next available issue. Approximately 1.5 months before open-access publication, reviewers receive a proof from the editorial team. The editorial team requests that corrections be submitted within 10 days. Reviewers and subscribers to the journal’s newsletter will be notified by email of the publication of the open-access issue. If required, a PDF file of the subsequent print publication can be sent for bibliographic processing.

Style of a review
A review in the journal is a critical appraisal of an academic publication (monograph, edited volume) in which the content is summarised and its academic merit assessed.

Style of a leading article
An editorial is intended to provide an insight into a field of research based on several monographs or edited volumes, and to critically assess developments within that field. The editorial therefore serves both as a collective review and a research report. As a rule, up to 10 publications may be requested, provided they were published no more than five years ago. The editorial team will source the publications.

Review copies in book form
Given that publishers no longer send printed copies for review, and that recent international customs duties and charges incur costs when receiving printed copies from abroad, the editorial team can no longer guarantee that reviewers will be provided with printed copies. The editorial team apologises for any inconvenience caused if, in such cases, monographs or anthologies are only available in electronic form.
